Weathered Wood Headboard

Since moving into our house in March the master bedroom has remained the most unfinished room of the house.. with the exception of the "scary basement".

I decided this fall to finally finish the master bedroom to make it cozy for the cold winter ahead. As part of our master bedroom makeover we decided that step one would be a grown up bed; a headboard was just the thing to make that happen!

We wanted a weather wood headboard and stumbled upon a closed down green house that had plenty of scrap wood up for grabs. We took what we needed and got to work.
The imperfections in each of the boards was the best part
First step was to scrub each board with soap and water and leave them to dry over night.

After measuring and re-measuring the bed and figuring out where the headboard would sit we started on the frame.

An arched top won over a squared top so we laid out the boards on the frame with each board staggered by an inch and a half. The highest point measured 63 inches from the bottom of the frame.

I finished by staining the frame with a mix of blue and brown stains that we had left over from another project.  The two colors made a grey color close enough to the weather boards, we weren't too concerned since the frame is barley seen. Finally I painted a clear semi gloss over the weathered boards.

Complete!  The updated linens definitely give the bed a grown up look and the addition of the headboard adds a grown up feel.

Denim Jackets

I bought my first denim jacket over 4 years ago and since then I've worn it countless times; with every type of outfit! It makes me happy to see that denim jackets continue to be a wardrobe must!

Unfortunately, my once favorite denim jacket has slowly lost it's luster and as the summer nights begin to get chilly I think it's time for something new.

These four light wash denim jackets have a great summer feel and a great price for any "on a budget" shopper!
